THE TUBE *updated* THE TUBE 2.0

DIE TUBE.

**********

There are two wonderful clips on youtube by the great LiberalViewer regarding copyright infringements on every level.
LiberalViewer does little commented segments or reports on chosen issues, being in that case copyright infringement. It is like a vlog, in the sense that he initiates little (365 comments?) discussions on these issues by questions asked at the end of each clip. His work is both entertaining and technically well made as well as quite insightful and illuminating in it's content.

1st: He's accused of copyright infringement.
>>Why Did Comedy Central Assert Copyrights Now?<<
2nd: Who's infringing on whom or what?
>>Stephen Colbert, LiberalViewer ...Is That Why They Hate Us So Much?<<

If you really want to understand the new dimension of ..."journalism"....check these out!!

*********

When I was starting to write this article, which was 1-2 months ago, I wanted to make a little comment on how most feuilleton journalists act like blind folded sheeps and maniancs concerning web 2.0.

It was just meant to be a little sidestep that I fell over while celebrating my cultural found in this little tube of pfizer // claire fisher shower soap, or whatever you call this stuff smelling like tropical fruit substitute shit.

I will do the PFIZER and CLAIRE FISHER part later.

They comment on the hype by indicating that in its early years the internet was nothing more but a collection of sites with grey backgound under piss yellow fonts webmastered by freakish brother in laws and industry and company sites promoting something worthless.

quote, Feuilleton FAZ, 10. August 2006:

And now with web 2.0, all those blogs, platforms with interfaces to share anything you want, your music, your picture, your film, your words, all of your crap, all of the sudden the internet turned into that huge user oriented thing and made the user into a producer, boo hoo!

Yes web 2.0 is great. It's a great word spreading an intelligent slogan. But to say, that it made possible the impossible, that it completely, out of a sudden notion of enlightenment changed the oportunities is indeed revisionist history.
It must be clear that from day one the internet and then the world wide web (or was it the other way around..?) developed that kind of everyman distribution. The difference with youtube is just that now, it is videos, and there's a huge hype attached to it.

I mean I can see the reason why "my directorial secret: lightning Nora Ephron www.huffingtonpost.com/nora-ephron would be too busy and I would be too lazy to get out and buy some html handbook, read it and follow it's instructions.
But it was always possible. I mean, both of us can read.
Harry Knowles, as I understand it, wasn't such a technology and computer freak himself. He all learned it by books only to do the movie scoop thing and turn it into some kind of hype. And he created something, that was only made possible in it's great scale by the activity of others, who'd be as crazy about films and filmmaking as he is. People that would risk something or not and send in stuff they had seen or heard of, or read.
Actually the internet has always been web 2.0, just in the past without interfaces, the bandwith, to start blogs, video- and picture sharing sites.

I love youtube. I especially love the increasing possibility of getting footage of any event and occasion Harrison Ford did attend. Or the opportunity of watching Steven Colbert and Jon Stewart Clips all night.

However, originally I just thought about commenting on the increasing exaggerating reports regarding web 2.0.
[The only really good thing about these reports is that they tend to feature sites and platforms you haven't heard of before.]
Now I extended my comment on it, as everyone in tv and print seems to go crazy over the google youtube coup and seems to loose all focus.

Some journalists for example centre their reports on how legally the whole youtube business is about to explode in a second (Which is a comparable large time in internet conditions) because of insufficient legal backing.
C'mon, don't you see that every little clip (and most clips don't run over 4 minutes) cut out of a film is nothing else but promotion? And every clip featuring an actor's appearance on a talk show is promotion, too. And it's not like these things didn't exist before. AS I already said. Youtube is just a form or format of exaggeration, nothing completely new.

Wake up and welcome to the 21st Century.

In addition to the promotion aspect there's the quality and quantity of the videos you can watch at youtube. Their quality mostly is pretty crispy and grainy but still pretty good for the occasion, retired men talking about their lifes, film clips, talk show clips, any form of artistic endeavours by people like YOU and me.

If the clip of George Lucas fighting Stephen Colbert at the end of the Colbert Report on Friday wasn't up on youtube as a streaming file (a further difference to the past. Just none remarks on it.), maybe it would be up on theforce.net or any other fansite concerning nerds of any kind or Colbert disciples.
Of course, with youtube, the possibility of getting that clip and finding it is much higher.

The funny and weird thing is how the old single channel media, print and television seem to be the last guys in the room to get the whole internet thing. Their blindfolded retarded reports on how the word wide web works only seem to disclose how slowly its own systems operate.

The fact that some shows dedicate some time to clips from video sharing platforms is not an opportunity to get hold of the internet. These shows just channel the newly available data like a news cast does with global political information. And less.

Youtube is just the beginning. Wouldn't it be much better to have an own mini youtube concerning one theme?

We or some of us don't like it anyway to be all under one and the same wrap, we wanna discover niches and little corners for ourselves.
Once youtube will be too mainstreamish, there will be platforms, specialicing on certain subject matters.

The main instinctive gathering notion in the internet, that is imo the most powerful indeed, is INTEREST.

Studivz.net is wonderful, if you're interested in seeing the whole everybody knows each other over six degrees stuff visually laid out in front of you. So is -again- youtube. But in the end, we'll sneak back to our little centres, homes of interests,
surf back to our harbors.
One of those harbors can be a website trying to collect as much interesting footage of an actor as possible. so that the ladies can rightfully drool over it.

(In this case it can be like porn with clothes for women.)

Aahh, I love the 21st Century.

movies for neverland # 3 - MAGNOLIA

Author: Matt (hal-47) from Toronto, Canada
Magnolia is a film of epic proportions. A film that is our generation's. It's about real life, real people and real coincidences. These things happen, this is happening as Stanley Spector states. Magnolia is as perfect a film as you will see these days. P.T.'s camera acts as the protagonist, and the ensemble cast is one of the most solid in film history. Told in 24 hours, set up by a remarkable prologue and finished with a beautiful epilogue, Magnolia finds beauty in the darkness of life. In the redemption of the filth life sometimes brings us. It shows us that we are all connected through pain and suffering and sinning and yet, it does not give us this pessimistic view. Certain films cannot be described, they must be viewed and everyone should view this masterpiece!!!

MAGNOLIA

I know this sounds silly. And I know this may sound ridiculous, like this is the scene in the movie where the guy is trying to get hold of the long lost son. You know, but this is that scene.... this is that scene...and I think they have those scenes in movies because they're true. You know, because they really happen. And you gotta believe me this is really happening. I mean, I can give you my number, and you can go check with whomever you gotta check with and call me back, but do not leave me hanging on this. Alright....please. And just ...please.
See....see...this is the scene in the movie where you help me out.

one is the loneliest number

And this week...

week americain

or

Georgie's in town

or

Jürgen is not in town

or
in reference to this blogger's mind while posting a dozen headlines.
The quest for the cure against indecision.

no, for fuck's sake, this is not gonna be the woche italiano. i'd rather stop eating that food, which is allegedly italian, but was stolen in an asian country a thousand years ago. stolen, as the world soccer championship title was indeed not.
they just played a better game and won.

as far as beauty, grace and style of playing, that have seemed to be inspired by a hollywood screenwriter task force, are concerned, we won. (we =the country i live in, germany)

man, we really knocked their socks off.

that drama, that euphoria.
it truly remembered what normally is not our strength, but the main export and most relevant and "truest art form" (AFI) of north america.
a thought which alludes my hope that these four weeks didn't only mean a change in who we are or whatever we may be. nope.
my hope is that, after watching that four week long film about a vision, a team and ultimately US (in this case as the Akkusativ form of WE not the short for fattest country in the world), WE may truly gain a whole new, better and more noble and honest perspective on STAGING, visions, FICTION, imagination, (optimism), and the power of a three act play, heroes and idols. ........

the way i see it now, this little introduction leaves us with slight american allusions. which is just fine, as i'm trying to turn over to the introduction of this -due to my lazyness- already ongoing week.
because this. is going to be.
the week americain.

well, we all strive for placative adjectives, don't we?

so what i actually want to say is, that one week after independency day, the week that our box offices are reopened to the never drying flood of cinematic imports (ironically the import americain is in this case fertilized by a german export, Wolfgang P"ie"ters"e"n) we

1st
got to celebrate the 64th birthday of actor harrison ford (july 13th) (look for some piece about this incident in about 50 years. or probably within 22 year when i'll be turning in my Harrison Ford obituary. See you then.

and

2nd
(as you will see i am surprisingly able to write about some other stuff then movies)

see the first post-Mainz visit of the president americain in this our country. beware stralsund! close your sewer tabs and shut the windows, get into the cellar and pray (or rewatch the game against sweden)! cause george bush is coming to town!

the 3rd thing pain strikingly fact americain occurring today:
you all know it already.
Klinsi's dead.
Well...not really of course (but who knows in this age of clones and doppelgänger). i'm just thinking of him as one of the first non writer, politician, professional capitalist, musician NATIONAL HEROES of our post war nation.
now he killed himself, as a lot of great heroes did it, to keep their honor (a sword would do). for me personally this is the time to suggest the killing of henry jones jr. in indyIV. only this way can he withstand the Caribean Pirates' pressure and the rocking of our adventure film throne. but that's off topic.

all i can say now is ...farewell to Jürgen Klinsmann. may he go, where so many germans went. where so many famous germans live. and where the return once they get the old Heine backslash. if the good old german heimweh will strike Klinsmann down...he's going to return. even to our myth of soccer.
is that eschatological or what?

THINGS I FEAR WHILE HEARING THE PHONE RING

gymnastics

For about one year my former passion and close-to-full-time-occupation is put on hold. It all started out with the obvious "learning" excuse, employed by almost every healthy procrastinating 19 year old student. It's the tool for everything you ever have been wishing to reject.

Me: Sorry that I didn't come to the training that often recently, but finals are ahead and the work is just massive, you know?

Trainer wife: I know, your schedule is just soooo tight. Just try to shevel some space for training in the future.

[That's the worst thing: she's just so understanding. Why? Maybe because she never had finals herself.]

Four months later:

Trainer wife: We're missing you [tone: relatively kind, as usual. When I got the offer to train with a more successfull group of a friended club that was lead by a domina person who never spoke in friendly tones, I rejected the offer. One of my basic wrong decisions of the road away from success?], thought you were not here anymore...hahaha [typical mid class woman around 40: I wanna lead an average life, not mediocre, average...but I've got my passsions: Dancing and gymnastics]...hahaha

Me: Well, you know, college is tougher than expected [so true...]...not much of the ole easygoing student atmosphere left there. I just come home when training's finishing [particularly true]...

following: Promise to arrive on a certain date...I won't appear ....due to examination, paper writing or other work.

While the summer proceeded, the finals already in my back, I continued to stay home, pretending to forget the existence of the gymnastic hall down the street. Maybe I chose the whole gymnastic thing as some kind of a symbol for a sinking life, the pre-final, school life of preservation, innocence and ease.

I was laying on our balcony, sleeping, as if I had been awake for the past twelve months. Pretending to forget that I was supposed to go to the gymnastics training at 6 o'clock, just as I'd been doing it for the past ten years.

Thus I slept.

With the lack of training visits my fear to accidentally meet my trainer couple on the street rose drastically. Everytime I'd leave the house the thought of running into them determined my conspirative looks and secret moves.

Practically my house is right in the middle of the relatively short way to "the hall". About 300 metres are between "the hall", me and the couple's place (they're sharing with two little children.). Not much space to find any trees or other botanics to hide.

The memory of going to "the hall" goes way back to the times, in which I learned to write and read. Gymnastics was there in my life since I can remember. And since it began to exist with and for me, there was a steady rise of skills and challenges, of power and success. I got better and better and better. I guess the "gestreckter salto", that just happened out of a failed flick flack (too high) was the climax of my gymnasticle life. The downfall already started when I a till that day- super kind kid started to do little cravings with my fingernails on the leathery top of the wooden boxes you use for certain gymnastic practices.

On that day, my image changed.

Then there was that incident, where I came close to driving straight into my then pregnant trainer wife. When her child was born and under recurrent influence of our team's "hall"-education I almost "dropped" her son in an unforeseeable playing accident. (I wasn't actually holding him up on my arm. I was just driving him on the little vehicle for the "M

However, as time went by I came to understand that

a) gymnastics ( or Turnen, as we call it in this country) is a great physical education, one of the few kinds of sports that keeps all parts of your body in pretty astonishing shape (or harrasses the most unknown parts of your anatomy). In addition to that it is great fun to watch all of that: The dynamics of bodies in motion. One of the greatest tricks of gymnstastics though is the specator's conviction of easyness, the lightness of a flying floating human body, the power of legs, feet, hands, arms. No other sport -besides track and fields- gets to be that pure and honest.

b) purity is not what comes to mind when I see these 15 year old bulimy sick girls with too muscular arms, too muscular legs and a bad haircut. It's not a pretty picture if these doll like kids strive off their bathing shoes to do their artificial as usual salto, flick flack bla bal line...as usual...just to get into their bathing shoes again , so that they can walk into the dressing room to throw up.
It's that kind of artifical atmosphere, that is up in the air even at the lowest of regional competitions.

I've recognized now that, as far as gymnastics is concerned, theory is far beyond what happens in real life. I don't want to learn the parts of exercises, that seem to be invented for the next 100 years of gymnastics history.
I want to do a sport that manages to challenge me on a creative level. Because creativity and dynamics are two of the main elements that ought to make this sport what it is...beautiful, surprising and stunning.
A possibility to show off what we're able to honestly do with our body in grace.

Slowly I start trying not to think of my gymnastics while hearing that damn urgent sound of our ringing phone. Try not to think that the male or female part of the trainer couple is on the other end of the line. Try not to think about them while walking down the street.

There are still a lot of other things left unresolved in my life that I fear confronting, when hearing the ringing phone, though. For example: My neighbour who borrowed me some cope of a freaking musical that was staged a couple of years ago in our hometown (my brother acted in the second part of it). (Damn, I haven't even opened the copy. Gonna throw it in his mailbox tonight, when it's dark.)

For now, I gotta go to the tennis court. Gotta play within an hour. The past three matches were damn good...as far as my own results were concerned. By any unlucky chance I will see my trainers car parked on the lot in front of our courts, because they will be on the annual team competition.

america is not a new world, it's a new strange alien planet.

Somehow the whole Academy Award Oscar stuff is like a big Muppet Show. And probably this is what makes it that enjoyable. Especially during the Pre Show everyone on screen seems to overact with the greatest conviction imaginable.

It's the sixth time I watch the Oscars now. Every time it gets to be a new huge Kulturschock.
Goddamn it, we are no way americanized. This is another fucking world.
The United States are actually not from this our world but a part of an outer space science fiction scenario. Now we know it.

THE STATE OF NO UNION

Dear reader/non reader/ myself,

This blog is Johanna's torn and messy soul. I can hear the surpressed sound of my parents shouting underneath me. I don't get to accomplish things. My mother is deeply decieved because I have not been into a church for the past three weeks. This blog is Johanna's opportunity she does not use. I know that the short term aversion (indeed long term estrangement) against my parents makes me sit in my room and do my work. Work I know I could have been doing a month ago. This blog is a big tear in the pacific ocean, a shout during a soccer match. I am lazy and addicted to high profile pleasure. This blog is Johanna's attempt to be like so many other internet writers, she's admiring and constantly appreciating.

I always admire.

My mom laughed.

I admire.

I like looking at others' work while I forget doing mine.

Two weeks ago a student friend asked me if I wanted to move to a flat-sharing community with her. This blog is Johanna's attempt of moving up to another scale. 6 days ago I rejected the offer. I always wanted to move away. I am lazy. Once I was alone in Berlin for two weeks. It was one of the best times I had in my entire life. I want to move away but what about the money? I am afraid I am going to need it later. I want to study abroad. I want to earn money. My mother says "it's going to be tough to do the whole organizational process of job application. And besides: Always be aware of that you cannot earn more then (insert correct amount of monthly fee here) or otherwise we won't be given the children fee for you any more". This blog is my mother's anxiety. I've yet to apply for a job at the video store.I do not fullfill my goals. This blog is Johanna's angst. I've yet to apply for a job at my local newspaper. My parents are old. My cousins are old. My brothers are old. My aunts are around my friends' grandparents' age. (I never got to know my grandparents. Only get to visit their grave a couple of times a year.) My brothers are pretty old. Justus Jonas, Peter Shaw and Bob Andrews are indeed over forty. This blog is Johanna's insanity. Steven Spielberg is getting 60. Harrison Ford is 63 and his skin slowly starts realizing that. Oliver Stone is old. Robert Altman is that old, he's not even allowed to shoot his own movies on his own anymore.

I am getting 20 this march.

This blog is Johanna's self pity. The world is very old. Aint it cool news is having it's 10th anniversary this year. This blog is the proof for the fact that I am wasting my time with seemingly unimportant information. Raiders of the Lost Ark I getting 25. This blog is Johanna's uncertainty if it is ok or not to refer to all those things in the same context. This blog is Johanna's uncertainty.

New Shores Teil 0

These times are not as satisfying as they should be.

I am indeed drifting ... between time, space and many possiblities. I am lazy. Right now I should rather be doing something, then writing nonsense on a stupid weblog in the middle of the night. Then I'm reading that Steven Spielberg said in an interview with Der Spiegel that he'd die for Israel or America. Man, I really admire this man, how can he say something like that. Something he doesn't have the right to say, I think. It is so hyperpathetical.

FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION

For some cynical award show life coverage, that is nailing the travesty go there

Ok, so for my next coverage I learned: Try not to be influenced by the super-protocoll-"i-don't-care-about-grammar-'cause-it-makes-everything-look-so-authentic" -style of the novels you read in college's Germanistik Seminar. (Anyone ever heard of Peter Weiss? He's the inspiration for everything grammatically irregular in my Filmpreis coverage. Yes.)

Next time I'll learn from old Nick Nunziata and stick to one-liners. instead.

First I thought about doing a little comparison between the "BAYERISCHE FILMPREIS" and last night's "GlOBES". Then I noticed that this is scientificly inappropriate as the FILMPREIS longs for the ACADEMY AWARDS, not for the GLOBES. In addition to that there is no money, need(to force the people to the ceremony) and space for any kind of open bar thing.
Foremost though, I gotta admit that I just don't want to invest any time in the comparison. I invested enough time in watching the GLOBES last night. Don't ask me why I did it.

Well, in fact it is a film fan's yearly pain- and delightful ritual to less "enjoy" and moreso "chew on" the regularly aired award shows, because if there's anything everyone in this world is silently agreeing on, it is that these shows don't have any relevance.

For facts supporting my point just take a look at the media coverage of these events:

These people just got it, thus they don't give shit on filmmaking or acting but rather focus on the things that really matter: Clothes, acessoirs and who's banging whom.
The people who are invited to these things are coming a) because of an OPEN BAR, an OPEN BUFFET or goodie bags (worth about 62000 bucks) b) because they're promoting their latest projects (To help out at this occasion you hear the announcer point out the release the presenters are attached to). Another reason you may come to these social gatherings is of course that you're likely to be awarded. You may increase your own shared tinseltown market value though when you decide to not appear at all. (Woody Allen) In that case you should realize that you have to pay for all food and drinks you're consuming while you're sharing some good laughs at your colleagues appearances at the show at home.
However there are also said to be some people who choose not only the nominees but also the ultimate winners of these statues. They are the concluding indicator to the non existence of relevance: They tend to "choose poorly". Of course this is a foremost subjective and biased argument of mine. It is like complaining about the lack of depth in an Uwe Boll flick. The fact that makes the poorly choices relevant (and thus prove irrelevance) is that it is told that some people have talked about having a friend working in the industry whose boss told them that these guys in the Academy don't even watch the stuff they're being sent over.
Well, if they'd have the courage to change some categories and care more about the nomination, then maybe watching the movies in the run wouldn't be such a painful process.
Sorry for complaining about the lack of quality in an Uwe Boll production.

It is the irrelevance, the astonishingly bad red carpet interviews and the feeling of so many wrong body parts that make these things so bad and yet enjoyable. After making a point about why Award Ceremonies are bullshit it is important to consider the following: The fact that all that is mined into a bad bad dismal situation makes the good and shiny things look the brighter.

I AM CONFESSING THAT I AM REGULARLY WATCHING THE GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS AND THE ACADEMY AWARDS.

1. The cultural anthropologist: "It's a ritual of a strongly connected (by incest?) social group.
All over the year we (people who love films and filmmaking) talk, chat, rant about and criticize these people who in the end gather at these events. Some of them are what you'd consider the "enemies of good entertainment", some of them may be your idols: Artists whom you admire and who are truly admirable.

The other wonderful occasion these days, to catch a glimpse and snippet of these people is through DVDs. Thank god for them.

It is the only occasion where folks like myself actually get to see the men and women who make efforts to make our most daring dreams and expectations come to the big silver screen. We can watch them while they watch other geniuses or jerward loosers. Most importantly you can watch them rant and go on about filmmaking and possibly what inspires them.
Let's face it: I loved seeing Peter Jackson (i guess there was just this one single shot of him the whole show) sitting at this table, knowing he wouldn't win but just being there, making the impression of a cowboy who just came from a hot hard ride (new meaning now).#

Last night it was Ang Lee's turn to bring on one of these "I simply have a passion for movies" moments that just show the fans and little kids and the greatest artists.
It is plainly important for filmfans to somewhat share the ritual that is the Oscars or the Globes. And especially our ranting and critizicing is how we share these moments. I'm well aware of the pathetic sound of it but it is like seeing people whom you've known a long time ago. And you gather to share that love for one singly ingenius art form, film.

2. There's no business like show business. If the Academy Awards are not poorly directed they can be a great great show. And now there comes what makes all the wrong body parts and hyperbolism obsolete at times: It is the important use of self-referential humor, satire and simply entertaining songs, clips and love explanations to filmmaking/ ironical hints at the state of the industry.

3. I admit it...
Last night I guess I was standing up at two o'clock at night just to see Harrison Ford at what he's worst:
Presenting an award.

He has a beard (big news, I know, earth shattering), and despite my little doubts about it, he looked gorgeous. And THIS IS MY TIME to clear some things up:

- Nick Nunziata (the guy from CHUD.COM) mentioned that "george clooney" hadn't aged a bit in the past ten years.

The truth/ my ignorant two cents: George Clooney clearly belongs to the "HE-LOOKS-SO-GOOD-FOR-HIS-AGE-BUT-IS-IN-FACT-ONLY 35" category of actors. (see: Richard Gere) Thus he clearly doesn't deserve compliments like that.
He looks like 50 ever since he's 27.

- Some other guy on the chud messsage boards brought up the usual Harrison Ford comment à la: "he looks as if he just came out of bed"

The truth/ my ignorant two cents:

Nope. My theory: He's been in that lovely cute adorable wonderful great sleepy mood ever since he's become an actor and is doing public appearances he's not capable of because of inexplainable fear of masses. (understood?)
Note: I think this can go through as blindly apologetic.
I must admit -though- that presenting awards is the worst thing he dares to do in front of public audiences.
There is compelling evidence though that he's still irreversible in his very own kind of humor (check out his talk show experiences if you're afraid of his latest movies!) wit and classy presence, that is really unique. All I mean: He's pure gold. (see picture above) The picture shows that immediately after the show he certainly felt the need to artistically express all the sublimations he had to undergo during his "appearance" in the show. Mmmmhhh.
Aaahh...that coolness....

I gotta say, that last year's presentation of George Lucas's AFI achievement award was an improvement in the award presentation area...

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

(ernste frage)
and den "dresen" geht.

INDY STRIKES BACK

SEAN CONNERY LOBT DIE ARBEIT ZU INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE.
oder
HOW THEY STOPPED WORRYING AND LEARNED TO LOVE THE HOLLYWOOD BLOCKBUSTER.
oder
HOW INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE IS STILL THE BEST MOVIE FOR 12 YEAR OLDS EVER MADE, IN MY OPINION.

THE O.C.

Actually, for the matter of being understood by us Europeans and Germans, this series is entitled O.C. California in these spheres. Because we, who are obviously not able to think of stories, that will entertain ourselves on our own, may not know that the O.C. is the short for the American "Orangenland" (which would be some kind of proper one to one translation.). In fact I would prefer the title

Das Orangenland (Das O.L.)

It would really contribute to the whole fun of it and furthermore would assumingly keep stupid 14 year olds from watching "that show with this really odd fruite name", that is undoubtedly a great piece of television.

WRONG EVIDENCE AND OBSERVATIONS THAT INDICATE THAT THE O.C. MAY IN FACT BE A SHOW FOR FEMALE 14 YEAR OLDS

But the fandom of filthy teenagers is not the only thing that makes a lot of people think that this series is not more than an odd, uninspired soap opera, that follows the texture of telenovelas, and dull daily soaps:
If you're just "zapping by" and suddenly find yourself facing that bunch of just way too beautifully looking human beings any chances rise that you may switch over to the channel with the "more sophisticated" programming. Series though, are not created for the attraction of the moment. They are sequences of situation and moments and therefore should be watched frequently. That may sound pretty dogmatic but as a matter of fact you should really watch at least two continuing episodes of a television series to be able to judge it's quality. It is the humble opinion of myself that anything less than that will be just a judgement of a story by it's cover.

So, to all of those german naysayers out there, who "hate" O.C. because everything and everyone looks so goddamn glossy and artificial and the characters "just talk so fucking exaggerated." ("I mean, just take a look at how the mouths of these people move.")I say: This is an American movie. As you may have recognized people talk german. Thus I assume subsequentially that it is dubbed. German voices + american gestures = mix of sign language and gestures you use when explaining something to a complete moronic person.

In the end I want to add that I'm not a fascist if it comes to human beings beneath or over a certain age. I don't think either that all 14 year olds are stupid, dull. No, they may as a matter of fact just be
a)hormonically disturbed or
b)on Ritalin
so it's not their fault.
Indeed I don't want to comment on any state of 14 year old. And my fear, expressed before, that they may be watching the same tv programming as I do doesn't have any rational cause.

Instead I should be happy and rejoice that a lot of people(mostly teenagers) are apparently growing up in the midst of really good entertainment.

coming up:
WHY WATCHING THE O.C. IS IN FACT A REWARDING EXPERIENCE FOR ANY THINKING HUMAN BEING.

PREFACE

I have a problem.

There are about 10 very concise topics about which I want to write desperately. once I'll have written about them, though, the finished piece will be posted and thus carved into the stoney brain of the internet.

It will be some kind of eternal speech of what I think. Despite the fact that indeed i'll be able to change or rewrite it anytime I want to.

These topics, they are a part of myself. The words and letters I will use to express my thoughts about them are like a new DNA. These are not my raisons d'être but they inspire them.

They inspire my daily life and have inspired a lot of what I did and what I am going to do. It's hard to let got. carving out the exact rows of letters, which ought to encode my passions and sentiments, the movements of my heart and my soul and my brain.

one year ago at a school seminar a franciscan read us a story.

[meta note: to write this sentence makes me proud.]

[hyper-meta note: writing this meta note makes me look like a selfconfident arrogant dull turd.]

the story centered around 4 elementary things in live. you gotta go and dwell into something. go. you gotta follow the star. see the star. you gotta stay wake. wake up.

and I can't remember what the fourth thing was.

a) or b) ?

The question is:
a) Do my posts look and read as if I didn't care about them BECAUSE none seems to read them anyway?
or
b) Does none read my posts BECAUSE my posts look and read as if I didn't care about them?

If the questions weren't about the lameness and thus non existence of readers it wouldn't be ridiculous to ask for answers in this multiple choice test.

post of october 21st

I moved.
I bought a new cupboard. It is filling a whole wall of my new room. It is designed by a genius. It is the monolith of IKEA. With its side walls it forms a square. In itself it is seperated into 25 squares all together. This symmetry and regularity even would make a dead skull on the shelf look orderly.
I moved one metre to the left. Directly in front of my parents' sleeping room there's my door.

Well, it's just for a little time.
Despite it's location, the interior of my new Zentrale is a paradise. It is a wonderful thing to have new shelfes at times, in which you're putting your whole life into new areas and get a lot of new things to put on these shelves. I shouldn't talk about the location of my new place in such a nasty way indeed, as I really should thank my mother for the generosity of letting me into it. Originally she wanted to have some more intimate space for herself in here. And she had the right for it.

Instead of immediately writing a post about my last week, my first week at university I will wait (as usual) and post the letter about my new life situation, that I'm going to send to my friends. I have the feeling that once you go to university your personal definition of friendship changes abruptly. My dearest friends, the people who know me better than anyone else on earth, are a hundred miles away and I will only communicate with thm by mail. In the past I got to see them every day. I tend to think of my school very often, when I'm at university. There was so much warmth there. Everything seemed like a long trusted part of myself.
This morning, sitting in the train to Frankfurt I had some kind of vision. I saw a woman's back, that really reminded me of Maria's. I know that this scene sounds like stolen from a drama I've watched on tv, but I experienced. Maybe I early on recognized the drama in it and lived through it more consciously than necessary.
However, I had another kind of these visions just lately.
As I was attending a sunday service at my school, together with my parents, I was quite sure to recognize my English and Sports teacher, when we were entering the parking space. It was not him though. But I only realized that after I had become completely nervous and selfconsciously got out of the car. I tried to look as cool, elegant, sexy and handsome as possible, while my parents were trying to find a fitting space for our car right next to me. You probably can imagine, that the presence of parents in a situation like that, doesn't really install a comfortable feeling.
How old am I?
That was the question I asked myself, when I finally noticed that the man standing in a close distance was definetely NOT my sport teacher. I knew, that I had somehow hoped to see or meet him there. My connection, my link to this person can in fact be described as quite confusing, irrational, crazy, secret, hate, disgust and a subconsciously contacting undeniable APPEAL.
[note: To put one thing straight here: The word love was not contained into that row of words.]
Somehow this guy has always remembered me in Harrison Ford. [note: In fact it is my life proof for the fact, that there exist more versions than just one of some appealing incredibly sexy human beings out there in the world. q.e.d.]
Most recently some sightings that ocurred to me on Campus turned out to not be any kind of visions but the pure reality in front of my eyes: A lot of well known faces. It's a little bit like in our local supermarket. You meet a lot of folks, whom you don't really need to see.
I just read the introduction to Stephen Kind's Dark Tower series. He's writing about being 19. What a conincidence. I'm 19. He's talkin about naivity. About ambition and the mentality to just go for it. About dreaming and smoking dope. And about just going your own way with just a few trousers and a typewriter.

The reason of all speechlessness

hucksblog.blogspot.com

This blog is not just funny and offers incredibly entertaining writing. It's also featuring a lot of insight on how a screenwriter can deal with crimson ape agents, dumb fucking lesbian agents, asian actors, boywonder directors.
It is as if Josh Friedman, the author (also of the first draft of WAR OF THE WORLDS) is unfolding little movie episodes before your eyes as you read his blog entries.

I'm personally involved into two different virtual worlds of fandom.

No.1: The german internet gatherings of fans of three investigators books and audio tapes. Here people are german and talk german.
It occasionally occurs that I have confusions in language because i'm constantly switching from german language to
anglo american websites:
No.2: The internet community inhabited by star wars geeks, chewers. comic shop clerks, people who read the simarillionpeople who use to type first into their subject box, browncoats, trolls, plants, people who claim to know someone whose friend works at ranch, people who know somone who knows the indy4 script and says the darabont draft was better, people who are making , people who own more than a thousand dvds (not me), people who were inspired by steven spielberg (me) , folks who share the deep love to movies and filmmaking.

In Josh Friedman's blog these two worlds collided when he was mentioning the three investigators in one of his posts. That was quite a clash- experience for my part.

reality tv - I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore.

Friday night I was watching A LIFE AQUATIC from Steve Zissou by Wes Anderson. During the love scene of Cate Blanchett and Owen Wilson (I just cannot keep movie characters' names in my mind. I guess it must be the same thing for variety reviewers as they always use the actors' instead of the characters' name) I was suddenly extraordinarily bored and switched over to the normal tv programming. I found myself in one of the friday night talkshows i usually enjoy pretty much. Now it is a given fact that the characters in Wes Anderson flicks tend to belong to the most cranky, weird, mentally confused, eccentric and maybe unrealistic folks that have ever been seen on theater screens. When I saw the talkshow guests sitting on their chairs in front of me though I could hardly notice any difference between Wes Anderson's take on reality and the televised reality that I faced that minute. In the end this obviously the reason why we love these cranky characters populating the stories of the Coens, Andersons, of Ozon, Mendes and Kelly? They actually exist. Those are the people we meet in the supermarket, who live next door and whom we unfortunately see on local tv. Our world is
populated by these guys and maybe there's enough incidence to assess that even I, myself could be one of them. Our life just seems to work by the logic of the the absurd and television is the best place to witness absurdity and Uneigentlichkeit. Or is it only television that conveys the impression of an absurd world?

The biggest televised revelation is when you get to see people on tv that you actually know personally. On one of our local stations I recently saw a woman of our neighborhood prepare some kind of special "summer drink" in front of the camera. The show itself is regularly hosted by two guys from my town. It is incredibly funny to witness the transition from provincial quasi-celebrities to tv personalities. The fun comes from the fact that many of these people who suddenly gain this (sometimes regional, sometimes domestic limited) celebrity status just aren't worth it. These men and women try to be funny but are not. They try to do intelligent moderation but fail.
The saddest and most absurd part, though, is that there are actually people who enjoy this shit.

THE DAWN

When i was laying in my bed this morning (early afternoon) i felt like a whale just flooded onto a strange shore. Maybe this feeling was slightly inluenced by the dream i had this night which actually dealt with a lot of spiders.
Spiders in my room to be exact. They very about a thumb's size, not actually very big but crawled around like crazy so that every piece of the floor was covered by their bodies. i assume that one can put this SPIDERS IN MY ROOM dream to the categories of nightmares. It's crazy how our brain is able to fool us. One more time during this dream when I was trying to reassure myself that this was indeed nothing else but a dream I could barely recognize some spiders sneaking slightly about my head.
Or was this not a dream?
In addition to the aftermath wake of dreams I'm often struck by a time paranoia when I'm alone and don't have a date that forces me to get out of bed. Thus I'm just lying there, the bright light of morning shining through my window,
reflecting on what time it may be. Mostly I'm sure that it must be horribly late. Probably after 12 a.m. . So what I do to leave that embarassment of standing up in what is supposedly the afternoon behind is that i don't move and just keep lying there.

I don't know what I'm waiting for then. It would probably be a good idea to just take a little peek at my watch to see that it is not even 11 o' clock. The reslut is that I'm spending about 50 minutes in my bed with
nothing left but paranoid regret. Regret, that I'm still laying in bed.

Regret that I ate a whole load of chocolate yesterday.
Regret, that I don't want to go to the gymnastics training that takes place this evening. ("I can do some situps and stuff right here at home", "I still have to edit the whole camp movie, and there's a lot of work ahead of me")What rescued me this morning was a wonderfullly delight- and meaningful mischmasch of music.

I think now that it is important -at whatever it is that i DO these days- to maintain confidence.

I shouldn't walk around in heavy boots because i think that everything i do is wrong.

A german director presented a documentary that is entitled DIE GROßE STILLE at the venice filmfestival. In this movie he portrays the life in a Karthäuser Kloster in France. The monks are living in silence most of the time. The director, when asked what he had learned there, said: "I left with the realization that there's nothing that can really turn bad or that IS WRONG. I gained confidence"
